Board of Directors

Flagstaff Academy, a public charter school within the St. Vrain Valley School District, is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is made up of a dedicated group of volunteers who make the strategic decisions to keep our school's operations in line with our mission and vision by providing the school administration the necessary resources and support to be successful. The Board of Directors is responsible for setting the annual school budget, reviewing and approving the school curriculum, establishing policies and procedures consistent with Flagstaff's mission, hiring the Executive Director, long range planning, site and facility development, and many other decisions relating to the direction, financing, and operation of Flagstaff Academy. The Board of Directors oversee several committees that report recommendations and serve to help the Board of Directors govern the school. Board of Directors members serve three-year terms and are elected to the Board of Directors by Flagstaff Academy parents.

Flagstaff Academy is governed by a Board of Directors in accordance with the bylaws of the organization. The Board of Directors consists of committed and dedicated volunteers who may be parents of Flagstaff Academy students or other community members, and whom must share and uphold the vision and mission of Flagstaff Academy. The Board of Directors is responsible for setting the annual school budget, reviewing and approving the curriculum, establishing policies and procedures consistent with Flagstaff's mission, hiring the principal, long range planning, site and facility development, and much more.

President- Ms. Cary Lynch


Cary Lynch is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. She has held roles as a school psychologist, elementary behavior specialist and certified trainer for the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention program. Prior to her graduate studies and entering the field of education, Cary worked in the technical and engineering fields. She has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado in Boulder and an Education Specialist degree from the University of Northern Colorado.

 

Cary lives in Erie with her husband, Ryan, and their two daughters. Ryan has worked as an engineer at Google, Inc. for the last ten plus years. Both girls are Flagstaff Dragons with Tessa in 5th grade and Celia in 1st grade. Cary enjoys traveling and camping with her family in addition to volunteering as a Girl Scout troop leader and supporting her girls in their academic and extracurricular activities.

Katie NunleyVice President- Dr. Katie Nunley

Dr. Katie Dueber Nunley is a pediatrician practicing at UC Health Carbon Valley. She grew up in Longmont and attended Longmont High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota and her MD from New York Medical College in Westchester, New York. She completed her pediatric residency at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Katie practices, general pediatrics but has a particular interest in child development and preventive care.
 
Katie lives in Longmont with her husband Tate and their two daughters, Allison and Sarah. They have both been Dragons since preschool and are now in 2nd and 5th grade. Katie enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family, and watching her girls play soccer!
Treasurer-Mr. Bob Omer


Bob Omer is the Executive Director of Defy Ventures Colorado, a non-profit that provides entrepreneurship, employment, and character development training to currently and formerly incarcerated men and women. Before moving into the nonprofit world, Bob was a corporate attorney focused in private equity and corporate finance most recently living in Germany providing legal and advisory services to individual and corporate clients, specializing in capital development and corporate transactions.

Bob earned his J.D. from the Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas. He also holds an MBA in Global Finance and Management at the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona. He has a daughter in the 6th grade at Flagstaff Academy and enjoys spending time with his family, reading, photography, and BBQ.

Member- Mr. Sean O'Donohue

Sean O'DonohueSean O'Donohue grew up locally and currently lives in Longmont with his wife Tracey and two Flagstaff Dragons Emilia (1st grade) and Owen (Kindergarten). He enjoys spending time with his family traveling, skiing, fly-fishing, and anything else outdoors. Sean is excited to be joining the board and has a background in adult education and has been in the biotech industry for 13 years across a number of functional roles. 

Secretary- Mrs. Elizabeth O'Hara

Elizabeth O'Hara's professional background is in recruiting. She worked for Robert Half International in Washington, DC and then in Denver as a Recruiting Manager within their accounting and finance division. Prior to that, she worked for an equipment leasing company, ePlus inc., as a contracts manager and a funding manager. While taking time off from work to be a stay at home mom, Elizabeth has focused her efforts on volunteering at Flagstaff Academy. She has served as room parent, front desk volunteer, copy mom, Pingree Park chaperone, Dragon Dash volunteer, VEX IQ robotics volunteer, field trip chaperone more times than she can recall, Friday folder parent, multiple hiring committees' member and the co-chair of the Flagstaff Academy PTO's Hospitality Committee.
 
Elizabeth graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science. She lives in Longmont with her husband, Chris, and their two Dragons, James and Jack. James is a 7th grader and Jack is a 5th grader. When not carting her kids to and from activities, Elizabeth enjoys spending time with her family outdoors - camping and visiting National Parks in the summer and skiing in the winter.

Julie Prestopnik is a Software Engineer in the Research Applications Laboratory at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, where she provides software engineering support to the Developmental Testbed Center working on the Model Evaluation Tools Plus (METplus) verification package. She works mostly on system installation, infrastructure, documentation, and maintenance. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Colorado in Boulder and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Central Florida in Orlando.  

Julie lives in Longmont with her husband, Paul, and their daughter, Elyse, who has been a Dragon since Preschool and is now in Middle School. Julie has volunteered at Flagstaff Academy in various forms over the years as a Junior Achievement Teacher, Friday folder volunteer, field trips chaperone, classroom photographer, Math Committee, Website Advisory Committee, Chromebook Repair Team, School Accountability Committee (SAC), and Hiring Committee for the Elementary Principal. She has also volunteered as a co-leader for her daughter’s Girl Scout troop since 2016 and regularly fosters animals through the Longmont Humane Society. Julie enjoys traveling, reading, spending time in nature, and spending as much time with her family as possible.

Director-Brady Toothaker
 

Brady Toothaker is a mechanical engineer, currently working for Microsoft, specializing in predictive engineering for the Surface products group. Brady holds BS and MS degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Oklahoma and University of Colorado, respectively. A native of Oklahoma, Brady first moved to Colorado in the early 90’s to live in the high country and work as a whitewater rafting and backpacking guide. Brady lives in Longmont with his wife Kea and their four children. Kea is an Occupational Therapist who works with children who have difficulty with reading. Brady and Kea have two former Flagstaff Dragons, Cole and Carly, who are both at Niwot High School, and two current Dragons, Kye and Kendall, who are in 7th and 4th grades, respectively. In addition to his volunteer work on the board, Brady volunteers with the Flagstaff Academy robotics programs and with the St. Vrain FC youth soccer club. When not working or volunteering, Brady enjoys watching, coaching, and playing soccer, whitewater rafting, cycling and spending time with his family.
